HENRI HUET              LIFE 11th February 1966 - On With The War And Operation Masher

Henri Huet documented the men of the 2nd Batatlion, 7th Cavalry of the1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) involved in Operation Masher that began on 28th January 1966. He spent 24 hours with two companies of the 1st Air Cav attacking the village of An Thai. His striking images of medic PFC Thomas Cole, continuing to offer help to striken comrades while wounded himself, made the cover of Life, and won him the Robert Capa Gold Medal, awarded by the Overseas Press Club. On the 10th February 1971, the helicopter in which he and Larry Burrows were travelling in was shot down over Laos. Both photographers were killed. The crash site was only discovered in 1996.
