J Haywood Magee                     Into Action : Aboard A Cruiser 1943

J Haywood Magee spent three weeks onboard HMS Scylla, a Dido class Anti-Aircraft Light Cruiser. Scylla was engaged on convoy protection from it's base in Gibraltar. The convoys ran the gaunlet of the Luftwaffe, under constant threat of air attack. Magee documents in-depth life aboard the ship, from the bridge to the boiler room. As Scylla comes under attack from long range Fw200 Condor's, Magee captures the intensity of a warship at action stations in the ensuing battle, during which the Scylla survived a near miss.
Captain Ian MacIntyre is photographed on the bridge in the midst of the battle, and later at rest in his cabin.
