Bert Hardy Last Steps to Victory Picture Post 4th April 1945
Bert Hardy was ordered by General Dempsey to accompany him on his river crossing. In so doing, Hardy took the first picture of an Allied General to cross the Rhine. After documenting the bridging, he pushed forward in a jeep in an attempt to contact the men of the 6th Airborne Division. He found the 1st Royal Ulster Rifles, who were holding a bridge they had captured over the River Issel. He also documented a make-shift field hospital of the 195th Airlanding Ambulance R.A.M.C.
