Brassai Paris By Night Picture Post 1939
Stefan Lorant invited fellow Hungarian emigre Brassai to produce a photo essay for Picture Post. The theme of his first story returns Brassai back to familiar territory, Paris by night. After the success of his book, 'Paris De Nuit' (1933) he produces a more sanitised vision of nocturnal Paris. Lorant's layout produces some interesting juxtapositions of rich and poor experiencing the city by night. Lavish dinner parties and Cabarets are contrasted with men of the "Les Halles" vegetable market.Niura, Lorant's first wife features on the cover in the photograph entitled "The Girl In the Snow."
