W. Eugene Smith Drama Beneath A City Window - LIFE 1958

From the window of his loft apartment at 821 Sixth Avenue, New York, Smith directs his gaze on the individual dramas of everyday life that play out in front of his lens. Small vignettes form, narratives are suggested. An invisible observer, he grasps moments, a story told no longer from within. Time passes and the scene changes suggesting the vibrancy of a city and world Smith has removed himself from.
Life dedicated eight pages to Smith's on-going project, four years after the publication of 'Man of Mercy', which created a rift between the publication and the photogrpaher.
